Stay on top of the news

Google alerts is a very useful tool. Many times I am following a story in the news but either I get distracted or just can’t be bothered to check sites for it. This is the best way to handle it. You sign in and type in a series of keywords that you might normally use to search for the story in a search engine or news site. This allows you to have an e-mail to be sent whenever your keywords are used in a news story. I recommend that you choose the once a day email option otherwise, depending on your search keywords, you will get a flood of emails. You can do up to three different searches. Below is what Google has to say about it.

Some handy uses of Google Alerts include:
  • monitoring a developing news story
  • keeping current on a competitor or industry
  • getting the latest on a celebrity or event
  • keeping tabs on your favorite sports teams
