“We are inclined to think that if we watch a football game or a baseball game, we have taken part in it” JFK

Now if you have been reading this for a while you know I am not a sports buff. I had to ask yesterday if the Superbowl was this weekend. For many the game is a sideshow while the commercials are the real attraction. So today I give you two places to watch those ads without the TV and the distracting game. One is Google Video and the other is AOL video. However you will have to wait a little while before you see the new ones. Now if you want to actually see information about the game check their site. Finally to roundup this rambling post, I have eaten many a snack during this game in the past and I usually leave with a chest full of heartburn so I give you a site for some better recipes. To anyone watching the game, have a good time and enjoy yourself. As for me, I will be on the net. Give these a try!

“The best defense is a good offence”

Ok I am on almost any site these days and I see an ad for Match.com or some other site with nearly naked people. It does not matter where you go, you are hit with adverts that are coming close to getting people fired. Should you stop going to sites where the information is good but the ads are bad? No I say! Use the option in the browser Firefox to block these images. Just point to any of the images and right click on them and choose “Block Images from ….”. Just be careful to not block all the images on a site because you will start losing important information. It is easy to fix though. Just point to any of the images that you know are there but cannot see and right click and click the “Block Images from ….” again to uncheck it. Give it a try and tell us how it works!

As the car nears 88 miles per hour, the light of the flux capacitor pulses

One statement I have heard repeatedly in class is that computers and technology are moving too fast. This is true. When you have the computing power to come up with faster ways to compute, it gets faster and faster. However, it has been a long time when you actually look at the early computers. So take a step back with a website called Obsolete Technology. Their site explains its existence by saying “Early personal computers were nothing like present day computers, they had personality!” Walk through time viewing pics and descriptions of the way it started. I found my first computer, an Atari from the mid eighties. But if this is too static for you, try this article by PC World. It is A Brief History of Computers, as Seen in Old TV Ads. If it does not work you will need the Flash Plug-in to view the commercials. (it is free) So start the Delorean and drive into the past. Give it a try.
