The alchemists in their search for gold discovered many other things of greater value. Arthur Schopenhauer

Occasionally I get an email from a student who does not own a computer that needs to convert a file. To explain let's say that I write a document in Microsoft Word but I want to send it to someone who does not have the same program. I should change the file from Word to something like a PDF. This is a file type that anyone can open because the program, Adobe Acrobat Reader, that runs it is free to anyone on any computer. This is why any government files, like tax forms, are in PDF format but it can be a pain if you do not have the software. Thankfully there is a new site called Zamzar. The name sounds like some Arabian Prince or maybe I should stop playing video games. Anyway, it has free file conversion for files up to 100 megabytes, and best of all it is simple. Go to the page and browse for the file and then choose what to convert it to and then put your email address in so it can be sent to you when finished. Just think you can be the modern day alchemist. Give it a try!
